Suraj Sonar
Bansuri Instructor
Namaste,
From a young age, my parents nurtured my love for music, teaching me devotional songs. This early exposure laid the foundation for my musical journey.
In high school, I was blessed to receive guidance from Guru Shri Pramod Harimandir, who introduced me to the flute. Through him, I also had the honor of learning from Guru Shri Sudheendra. During my university years, Guru Shri Pramod Harimandir’s encouragement was instrumental in my continued flute studies. I also had the fortune of meeting Guru Shri Chandrashekhar Gogi, under whose tutelage I further honed my skills.
Embracing the digital age, I discovered Dr. Kerry Kriger on YouTube. Impressed by his teaching methods, I explored his official site and became a Bansuri Bliss Member. Dr. Kriger’s approach constantly challenges and expands my comfort zone, and I am grateful to be selected as one of the Bansuri Bliss Instructors.
Since 2021, I have been assisting in teaching Bansuri Bliss Members Lessons that take place every weekend. I enjoy teaching new learners, as it allows me to witness their growth and helps me reconnect with the fundamentals of bansuri. The members I teach come from diverse age groups, ranging from primary school students to retirees, and from various countries, which adds to the enriching experience.
I continuously seek to learn from the musicians around me, attending sessions whenever possible and utilizing video tutorials. I am deeply thankful to all the musicians and music gurus who have been part of my learning journey.
Bansuri Bliss is a treasure trove of musical knowledge, supported by a community of kind-hearted individuals who constantly encourage and assist each other.
Currently, I am a teacher in the Civil Department at Veerappa Nisty Engineering College in Shorapur, Karnataka. Despite my professional commitments, I always find time to practice and learn music from everyone around me.
I believe in the saying, “through Swara, we reach Eshwara,” which means “through musical notes, we reach God.” I strive to live by this philosophy, hoping to reach and express the divine through music.
With Best Wishes,

More About Suraj Sonar
A message from Bansuri Bliss Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger
I started teaching Suraj in 2019 and was immediately impressed by his musical skills and dedication to bansuri. He came to me having already studied Indian classical music and was able to pick up new concepts rapidly. He has been a dedicated student, and has taught numerous Bansuri Bliss Members Lessons and Office Hours, where he gets to assist and interact with bansuri players from a wide variety of backgrounds. He also has a firm grasp of the written music, both transcribing and composing music. On top of that, he’s a very nice guy! As such, I encourage you to take lessons with him.
